The Former FTX CEO, Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried, is reportedly being held in a federal transfer center in Oklahoma even though he has previously requested to stay in New York. Authorities speculate that he may later be transferred to jail in California, closer to his parents’ residence.
Sam Bankman-Fried was previously detained in New York but records reveal that he moved to the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City on May 23. This short-term holding facility is known for housing inmates before they are sent to other penitentiaries within the national prison system.
Despite being recommended to stay in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn by Judge Lewis Kaplan, it appears that Bankman-Fried has been moved. Bankman-Fried had wished to stay in New York to ensure easier access to his appeal counsels. With seven felony counts to his name, Bankman-Fried was sentenced to a hefty 25-year prison sentence.
As of now, it’s uncertain how long the ex-CEO will linger in Oklahoma. However, there’s a likelihood of him being moved to the Federal Correctional Institution in Mendota, which is a tad nearer to his parents located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Bankman-Fried is notably the only individual tied to the chaos of FTX and Alameda Research who pleaded not guilty. He was finally convicted for his part in scamming customers. Other former executives pleaded guilty and struck deals with legal agencies. The sentencing hearing of one such ex-executive, Ryan Salame, is expected to take place on May 28.
