In the last 12 months, the global number of cryptocurrency ATMs has seen a significant boost of 17.8%, amounting to a total of 38,279 machines. This indicates a striking approach to the record, which was set in December 2022 with a count of 39,541 ATMs.
Throughout 2024, 2,564 new cryptocurrency ATMs have been installed around the world. This shows a promising trend when compared to the loss of 2,861 machines witnessed in 2023, as per data from Coin ATM Radar. Despite a drop of 115 installations from May to June, the numbers bounced back in June with an increase of 377.
The dominant operators in the cryptocurrency ATM market are Bitcoin Depot, Coinflip, and Athena Bitcoin with 7,543, 5,057, and 2,756 machines instructed, respectively. Bitcoin remains the most popular cryptocurrency used in these ATMs, followed by Bitcoin Cash, Ether, and Litecoin.
Around the globe, it’s noted that over 82% of these machines are located in the United States, while Canada ranks second with 7.7%. Meanwhile, Australia’s installations saw a sweeping rise, surging nearly 17-fold to 1,107 machines over two years. With the current rate, Australia is poised to leap ahead of Europe’s count of 1,584 ATMs.
Even though between December 2022 and July 2023 the installations saw a considerable reduction, leading unto an 18-month low of 32,764, it is important to note the market’s recovery and growth. Data indicate that this drop could be attributed to the cryptocurrency ATM manufacturer BitAccess, which experienced a decrease in installations from 9,160 in August 2022 to 6,774 in January 2024. However, they have since managed to raise installations up to 1,208.
