Former American President and potential future candidate, Donald Trump, recently indicated his intention to convert the United States into a ‘crypto capital’ if he secures victory in the upcoming Presidential election. The pronouncement was made at the Bitcoin 2024 convention held in Nashville, Tennessee.
Commencing his speech an hour behind schedule, Trump voiced admiration for the Bitcoin community likening it to the infant stage of the steel industry. He confidently projected that Bitcoin would surpass gold in future, praising it as a magnificent technological feat as well as a testament to human cooperation and achievement.
In his trademark style, Trump then directed jibes at his political adversary, in an apparent reference to Vice President Kamala Harris, the expected Democratic Party nominee. Furthermore, he addressed the energy consumption debate related to Bitcoin and AI. In an unanticipated promise, he pledged to use fossil fuels to provide such vast amounts of electricity that would have people pleading to halt the supply. He further emphasised his plans to revoke federal incentives currently offered to electric vehicle and charging station manufacturers.
Describing himself as a strong contender for the support of the cryptocurrency and Bitcoin communities, Trump reassured his audience that his actions, if elected, would not disappoint them. Advocating for gratitude towards him for the prospective work he anticipates undertaking, he indicated that if Bitcoin sees the momentum that popular phrase ‘going to the Moon’ suggests, he wants America to be the one propelling it.
