Brian Brooks, the former interim Comptroller of the Currency of the United States Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and former Chief Legal Officer at Coinbase, has resigned as CEO of Binance.US just three months after taking over the role.
Brooks announced his resignation on Twitter, citing strategic differences with the exchange as the reason for his departure.
Brooks did not specify the nature of the claimed strategic disagreements in his piece. The resignation comes as Binance faces increased scrutiny from several regulators and agencies across the world.
Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of Binance, expressed gratitude for Brooks’ work and expressed the hope that the former executive would continue to advocate for “regulations that move our industry forward.”
During the current cryptocurrency boom, Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world, has been accused of assisting vices such as money laundering and scams.
Regulators in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Thailand are all keeping an eye on the exchange.
Binance. US assured its consumers and frequent traders that the executive move would have no impact on the company’s operations.
