Cardano’s Alonzo purple testnet, which will add smart contract capabilities to the world’s fifth-largest crypto by market cap, is nearing completion, according to Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), a blockchain infrastructure research and engineering company behind the development of the platform.
Following the Blue and White Alonzo updates, the Alonzo Purple version launches as the first fully public Cardano testnet to allow smart contracts.
The Cardano developer announced on its official Twitter account that the Alonzo Purple testnet is now operational and in the process of being onboarded.
In preparation for the update, IOHK says it has been in contact with crypto exchanges to guarantee that ADA holders may smoothly migrate into Cardano’s smart contract era.
Developers will be able to start coding smart contacts onto the Cardano blockchain using Plutus code following the hard fork combinator (HFC) event, according to the lead developer Charles Hoskinson in a live stream.
