Aronow will continue to play a role as a board member and strategic advisor, but his main focus will be on securing top-notch medical care to regain his full health.
Wylie Aronow, the man behind Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and CryptoPunks, is taking a leave of absence from Yuga Labs to prioritize his health. In a recent tweet, Aronow revealed that he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure after experiencing symptoms for several months. Despite his “mild” symptoms, he felt he had no other option but to step away from work.
Aronow will remain with Yuga Labs as a board member and strategic advisor, though he did not set a date for his return. This is not the first time Aronow has had to deal with a medical diagnosis that kept him out of work. In his twenties, he struggled with a chronic illness, but after recovering and co-founding Yuga Labs, he pushed himself too hard, working 12 hours a day.
Aronow says he is grateful for a second chance at life and wants to use this opportunity to get the best medical treatment and heal.
“When I recovered and we started Yuga, I didn’t want to waste a second chance at life. I pushed myself way past my limits. I worked 12 hours a day, nearly every day. I should have taken the advice from everyone around me and sought balance.”
“My goals now are to get the best medical treatment I can and heal,” he added
Aronow is also excited to work alongside the company’s new CEO, Daniel Alegre, former president and COO of Activision Blizzard. Aronow recently announced plans to propose a new model for NFT creator royalties. Aronow co-founded Yuga Labs in February 2021 alongside Greg Solano.
