Cryptocurrency owners are being warned to keep on high alert for suspicious crypto-airdrop-related emails by Tether CEO, Paolo Ardoino. Apparently rumored to stem from a recent data breach involving a leading email list management provider for cryptocurrency companies. Ardoino issued the warning to his significant online following of 234,000 users with the details of the violation still under investigation.
While the specifics of the security breach and the implicated company remain undisclosed, Ardoino pledged that further information would be revealed after the completion of the investigation. This breaching incident has created an environment ripe for scams, with fraudulent emails making the rounds, promising crypto-airdrops.
In another worrying development, a third company, CoinGecko, a widely used cryptocurrency tracking site, confirmed the attack. Bobby Ong, the co-founder and COO of CoinGecko, indicated that their platform might have been affected by the breach. His caution, like Ardoino’s, extends to CoinGecko users, urging them to ignore and report fraudulent emails offering new token launches or related to a nonexistent CoinGecko token.
