Renowned Chinese cryptocurrency investor, Justin Sun, recently acquired a piece of art which he consumed in a grand exhibition, making it arguably the priciest banana ever eaten. Sun doled out a staggering €6 million for an artwork that, intriguingly, was focused on a banana duct-taped to a wall.
Following his acquisition, the 34-year-old staged a press conference at a Hong Kong hotel where he orally ingested the taped banana, describing it as more delectable than regular bananas to a gathering of intrigued journalists.
The creative work, dubbed “Comedian” by its creator, Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, had its successful bid last week in New York. Sun opined that consuming the banana while addressing a press conference could be annexed to the art piece’s unique journey and tale.
The controversial piece, originally presented in 2019 at the Art Basel in Miami, spurred considerable conversation about its qualification as true art, an argument the artist, Maurizio, asserts was intentional. The fruity component of the artwork has been scoffed down twice during exhibitions, first in 2019 and later in 2023.
