Cryptocurrency platform Pump.fun is under heat after users allegedly displayed dangerous and violent behaviors on its livestream feature. This decentralized platform, designed for crafting Solana-based memecoins, has been dragged through the mud by the crypto community following incidents on its livestream which include threats of suicide and violence outwardly linked to the performance of certain tokens.
On Nov. 25, Beau, an executive from the Pudgy Penguins safety project, alerted about a worrisome situation in a Pump.fun livestream. A user was threatening suicide if their particular coin did not attain a targeted market capitalization. Beau, alarmed by the intensity of events, urged Pump.fun to not only halt the livestream and assist the person in distress, but also to completely dissolve the feature claiming it was “out of control.”
Further unsettling reports have surfaced on the platform, including alleged instances of a child threatening to kill family members over a token’s performance and another of a person even brandishing firearms. Outraged community members are now dubbing the livestreams a ‘pipeline of felonies’ and pleading with Pump.fun to cease this feature until comprehensive moderation tools are established.
Alon, the veiled team leader of Pump.fun, responded to the backlash confirming that a team is working diligently around the clock to moderate all content on the website. Alon assured users that the team was actively dealing with inappropriate content. As the storm brews, the community continues to press for clarity about additional protective measures and changes to the livestream feature, while the platform remains to address these concerns publicly.
