Aptos, a layer-1 blockchain platform designed by ex-Facebook personnel, has set a new high for blockchain transactions daily. The platform recorded a staggering 115.4 million transactions in just one day on May 25, outpacing Solana’s 31.7 million. This increased activity demonstrates a significant rise in blockchain engagement, highlighting the ongoing expansion and momentum in the sector.
The increase in transactional volume on Aptos has been associated with the introduction of a new tap-to-earn game, Tapos Cat, which has quickly become popular. On its first mainnet day, the game processed 10 million transactions, contributing significantly to the platform’s increased activity.
In Tapos Cat, players have the ability to earn $HEART tokens by simply ‘tickling’ a virtual cat. The game’s structure supports multiple transactions and offers a gas-free experience for the first 72 hours, incentivizing more users to play without any added expense.
Despite the heavy transaction volume, Aptos has been able to maintain consistent gas fees and success rates. This consistency is in part due to Aptos’ Aggregator feature, designed to process multiple transactions simultaneously, improving users’ experience on the platform.
However, Helius Labs’ CEO has expressed skepticism about Tapos Cat’s durability and practical utility, citing concerns that the game prioritizes click-and-buy interactions over providing true user value. Notwithstanding this skepticism, supporters argue that Tapos Cat is a key engineering project, showcasing the robustness and scalability of the Aptos network while laying the groundwork for future advancements.
Aptos Labs continues its mission to grant billions of users access to decentralized assets. The team revealed its new global advisors on May 9, including David Lawee, ex-vice president of corporate development at Google. In November 2023, Aptos Labs, together with Atomrigs Lab, announced their plans to launch a Web3 wallet service, T wallet, in collaboration with South Korean telecommunications operator SK Telecom.
